Cabinets come in two different types, face-frame and frameless. While the exteriors of both look the same, and it might not make much of a difference to you when it comes to picking a cabinet, there are some fundamental variations in the construction and it is best to know about them beforehand. Here, we first look at face frame cabinets and what they have to offer to your home.

Face frame cabinets do just what they spell. The front of the cabinet has a frame that holds the entire box structure in place. The main reason to have a frame is to provide rigidity, support and stability. Typically, face frame cabinets have a center slide, usually made of solid wood. This might add a little to the cost of the cabinet but simultaneously offers higher stability. Moreover, cabinets of a large size like the wardrobes used in bedrooms or single piece kitchen cabinets would go for the face-frame style. You can stock them up with whatever you want and they will not fall or topple over. In addition, the face frame style gives you the option of choosing lower quality materials for doors, which are moisture prone but are unaffected thanks to the center slide.

While the center slide keeps the doors stable and gives them a place to rest, they do have one disadvantage. This is in terms of space. While the total space remains the same, the cabinet becomes more compartmentalized and there is a lack of one huge storage space. It is for this reason that face frame cabinets are preferred to store a large number of small articles.

Whether you are installing a new cabinet or reshaping your existing one, it is best to first gauge what you will use it for before making a decision about the type of cabinet.
